Prof. Smita Lele
Prof. Smita Lele a food tech engineer is an acclaimed academician and scientist decorated with awards, professional achievements for her research work, technologies developed and transferred to industry as well as leadership roles played in professional bodies and in corporate activities of the Institute of Chemical Technology (still popularly known by its old name – UDCT), Mumbai – an institute par excellence. The unique nature of Prof. Lele’s personality is that she has something to tell and teach everyone – right from the semi-skilled employees, staff, house wives up to her doctorate students. She is known as a motivator and radiant source of positive energy which mesmerizes everyone in the very first interaction. A single meeting of a casual visitor or accidental meeting with a confused parent in corridors of ICT has led to life time bonding! She believes that “To be happy is our birthright” and does not feel shy to look for an opportunity to infuse the “dose” of positive thinking to even an IAS officer who happens to meet her in professional capacity. No wonder Mumbai Commissioner’s office invited her to deliver a talk to all their officers and teach them to eat the right food and think the right way !!

In last 20 years few thousand students from various science colleges in Maharshtra have had opportunity to hear her, interact and take e-guidance. Prof. Lele is known by thousands of home maker women particularly from Maharastrav- for her AIR radio talks, TV interviews, short films, news paper articles. To name some “Fair and Lovely Bharari” on Sahyadri Channel, Take off on IBN- Lokmat, Science Corner of FM Rainbow etc. She has given talks and conducted interactive sessions with these women through forums for example- Indian Women Scientists (IWSA) and Food Technologists Association (AFST) and Mumbai Grahak Panchayat, Mahila Mandals, Parle Katta, Chitpawan Sangha etc. This book Khadya Vidnyan teaches tricks to be used to save LPG gas, quick cooking with retention of more taste and nutrition and how to use “Science in Kitchen”.
